Tellura's web design services
We design, create and maintain websites for organisations of all sizes, helping you to build and manage a compelling and professional web presence.
We will build you a site that is easy to maintain and easy for your customers and readers to use. Our sites are built to meet web standards, using cascading style sheets (CSS) and XHTML.

We will take on as much or as little as you ask us to, from a few simple web pages to complex web site design and development.

Web Quick Start package 
Our Web Quick Start package provides you with a professional web site designed to put the basic information about your business on the web at the keenest price.
What is included
A set of five basic web pages populated with the initial content you provide. You can choose five pages from a range:
- index.htm (the home page)
- products.htm (for your company's products)
- services.htm (for your company's services)
- about.htm (for you to provide company information)
- contact.htm (for your company contact information)
- sitemap.htm (to provide a layout of the pages on your site)
- links.htm (if you want to link to other sites)
You will have a choice of a range of around 30 compelling, professional quality, attractive and well-designed page layouts that will allow space for your company name and logo on all pages and menu-based navigation.
We will place your company logo plus one other optional picture on each page. You provide the picture either in electronic format or as a print.
We will provide you with a CD containing your finished website, with all pages and pictures ready to upload to your hosting company.
What is not included
There are services that we do not provide within this package (though we can provide most as additional options) and for which you will need to make arrangements:
- Site hosting. You will need somewhere to store your web pages on the internet so that people can get to them. This is called "hosting". We can point you at companies that do this, or we can provide this as a separate option.
- Domain name. Many companies register their company name as a domain name for the purpose of running a website (like www.tellura.co.uk for these pages). We can arrange this for you as an optional extra.
- Keeping your content up to date. We offer a range of maintenance services should you prefer us to help you with this. Or you could check out our content management option.
- Graphic design. We will resize the graphics you provide to fit the page, but do not modify or optimise them in any other way.
Tellura CMS
Like the Web Quickstart, the CMS approach gives you a simple 5-page site based on a range of 30 templates. However, instead of having to upload your website every time you change a page, you can log in to your site on the web using a secure link and update your pages directly using a simple and safe mechanism. You will be amazed how easy, quick and smooth a process it can be!
If you have looked at free web content management systems you have probably been put off by their complexity. If you have looked at commercial content management systems you have probably been put off by the cost and complexity. The best news about the Tellura Web CMS is the price. A flexible and capable website, with easy to use content management tools, could be yours for little more than the cost of a bespoke plain html website. Apart from any design changes, new pages or support this is all you should ever have to pay.
Web Design and Build
If you are looking for a more distinctive look for your website, or you want more features, more pages, more graphics or more support, then we can help you with a full design and build package. We use the latest techniques and tools and can apply many years of website design experience.
What is included
We will meet with you to understand your requirements and design a site that is tailored to your needs. We can do as much or as little of the job as you want - from simply providing a design template to the full life cycle of design, development, graphic design, content editing and management, hosting and domain registration. In short, we can manage the entire process of setting up and running your website on your behalf.
We are not limited to plain html websites - if you want something more dynamic, including forms, databases, e-commerce facilities, a content management system or other more sophisticated features, we can develop a full dynamic website for you. We use Ruby on Rails or PHP and MySQL as our preferred development tools but will consider developing or updating sites using other technologies.
If you prefer to manage any part of this yourself, we will also optionally be happy to train you in how to edit, upload and maintain your web pages.
What it costs
As a bespoke design and build service the cost will be dependent on what you need us to do. However, as a guide, for a site with around ten pages, simple graphics or photographs, including a full year's content updates, prices start at around £1000.
Web site management
We know that the hardest part of having a website is keeping it up to date. Many sites are stale, suffer from broken links and may even have broken pages or graphics. While you probably don't want your site to be out of date, it can be a headache to keep the content of your site fresh. That's why we offer our management and maintenance service.
We offer on-demand, weekly or monthly content maintenance plans. We will take your basic content and update the site at the appropriate intervals. We will monitor your hosting service and your domain registration, ensuring that these are kept up to date.
What it costs
Costs depend on the maintenance plan you choose to take up. However a monthly maintenance plan for a simple ten-page site, including hosting and domain management could cost as little as £250 per annum.
Training
As with all of our services we are able to provide you with on-site or desk-side training for all of our web design and maintenance services. Our standard two-day training package covers editing web pages, modifying graphics and uploading files to your website. We are also happy to tailor a training package to your precise needs.
What it costs
Our flat-rate charge for training is £350 per day. For this we will train up to 2 people on your premises at your computers. We can also do classroom training on-site for larger numbers - just ask us for details.
You will need to have the appropriate software (that is, tools like Dreamweaver, Contribute, Rapidweaver, Fireworks or Photoshop) installed on your computers. We will provide training files and manuals.
Website accessibility advice and consultancy
On 1 October 2004 the final stage of the goods, facilities and services provisions of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA) came into force. Part of the Act concerns the accessibility of web sites, and all UK organisations, public and private sector, large and small are subject to its provisions. The degree to which companies can be held to account for websites that may disadvantage disabled users has not been put to the test, but there is a clear message for web site owners and developers - it's time to make our web sites more accessible!
The good news is that you don't have to sacrifice good design and attractive features on your site to make it accessible - this site has been designed to meet level AA compliance under the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) guidelines.
In many cases you won't need to do an enormous amount to make your website accessible. However as is often the case where legislation and standards are concerned simply understanding, let alone following the guidelines can be a minefield. At Tellura we have many years of experience in building and testing websites for both usability and accessibility, and are in a good position to help you bring your site up to the appropriate level of WAI conformance.
